The Yemeni public have already witnessed a dangerous conflict on their own territory. The conflict was intensified by the Husi rebellion and the demand for independency from the Yemen Government. This conflict became an international problem with the direct or indirect interference of Saudi Arabia and Iran. While a hot war started between the Yemen Government and the Husi; Iran and Saudi Arabia started a cold war. Iran support for the Husi caused Western powers- especially the USA- to focus on the region. These events at Yemen have strategically importance for the security of Middle East and the Gulfs.

Abdulmelik el-Husi, one of the young leaders of the Husi Movement, said in a feature that they fought to get their demands and the demand was freedom in thought, self-respect, humanity, healing the wounds of war documentation of lost and arrested people, public works, the end of government discrimination against the Husi and the realization of justice, citizenship and equality. The events in Yemen and its regional and international importance show that the situation has a different dimension. While, the Husi request humane demands, their media, monetary and armed attacks make the Yemen Government to take important measures against the Husi. The Husi claim that they are from Zeidi Shia and their aim is to found the Zeidi state of Yemen, but the rejections of most Zeidi scholars show that the Husi Movement has different aims. The aggressive policies of the Husi is not only against the Yemen Government. The Husi attack the Yemen public, kidnapping, breaking and entering schools, purification policies against non-supporters and tortures signal that the Husi are a terrorist movement not movement of resistance.

It is clear that the policies which are followed by the Husi will cause serious results. One of the most important problems is the support

“The conflict between the Yemen Government and the Husi is far from a local problem…The logistic support of Iran, the assistance from Eritre, the strategic situation of Yemen, the Middle East-Africa-Gulf and Indian Ocean policies of the USA, the political and ideological accounts of Iran show that the issues should not be discussed locally.”

of Saudi Arabia for the Yemen Government. The Arabian bombing of the Yemen Centre and also Arabian interference in internal affairs in order to destroy the Husi started a dangerous period which would change the balance of power in the region. Although, Abdulmelik el Husi and other important Husi leaders claim that they do not have relations with Iran and Hezbollah, the support of Iran over Eritre in front of the Husi show that the conflict includes not only Saudi Arabia but also Iran. There is a tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran for the future of the Middle East and security of the Gulfs. The conflict between the Yemen Government and the Husi helped both Iran and Saudi Arabia take an important role in applying their own policy and preserving self-interests. A sensitive balance of secret Iran policies, pursuit of the USA, Arabian weaponry support for the Yemen government and the re-appearance of El-Kaide in Yemen has been established.

The conflict between the Yemen Government and the Husi is far from a local problem. The rejection of Zeidi scholars in Yemen against the Husi Movement, tied relations of the Husi with the Carudiye sect and the attacks of the armed Husi movement against the civil population show that there are different accounts in Yemen. The logistic support of Iran, the assistance from Eritre, the strategic situation of Yemen, the Middle East-Africa-Gulf and Indian Ocean policies of the USA, the political and ideological accounts of Iran show that the issues should not be discussed locally.

Recent analysis on Yemen brings different approaches. The first approach is nourished from Iran, it supports the Husi Movement. The second one supports the Yemeni Government. The third approach accepts realities such as discrimination, poverty and excluded ideological policies in Yemen. It also accepts that the problem has foreign support, it is a part of a dangerous project which could change the structure of the region, so the solution of the issue will take time. All of these approaches show that there are serious issues which should be taken into consideration. Only one approach does not work. Full support for the Husi movement will cause the support of terrorist actions and violation of human rights of Yemen public. On the other hand, full support for the Yemeni Government will result in the legitimation of a Saudi Arabian- Yemen alliance.

In Yemen, the conflict has continued since 2004. The sides are not the Husi and the Yemen Government anymore, they are groups which involve Saudi Arabia, Iran and the USA. The intensified conflict taking place especially in the last months shows us a dangerous future, at the same time it may be seen as a rehearsal for a possible war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Yemen, containing the river basin of the Gulf, the Red Sea and ocean, has strategically importance. El-Kaide connected relations are brought up in Yemen and these show that accounts of Yemen have different characteristics. While both Iran and Saudi Arabia try to realise their own aims, the USA aims to apply its regional policy. May be, the Yemen Government is the most ineffectual player in this multinational game.
